In its latest report, Nestle USA looks at some big trends shaping the food and beverage industry. Take a look at these food and beverage trends that Nestlé USA predicts will shape the food industry in 2022.

New Working Habits

Because of the way Americans work has changed, lunch and breakfast can be a good time for companies inspired by what’s happening in the kitchen. During COVID, 47% of adults ate at home everyday, compared to only 37% for breakfast and 26% for lunch pre-COVID. As a result, consumers are looking for more designated at-home dining options.

Coffee also has changed. It’s no longer just a caffeine boost — it’s become another ritual we use to start the day. Millennials who worked at home during COVID reported higher satisfaction with their coffee routine than those who worked outside their homes. Nestle is making sure they’re using digital content to create an experience that makes you feel like you’re at home with your brew.

The Emergence of Snacking Routine

According to data from The Hartman Group, more than half of consumers snack more often now than they did just one year ago. Nestle is focusing on appealing to different generations of snackers in 2022.

Plant-based Foods

Dairy-free coffee creamers are becoming more common as younger consumers choose to adopt plant-based diets. This is a positive trend because plant-based diets can reduce the likelihood of obesity and certain cancers and may help extend lifespans.
